Thinking Outside the Box

Are you a traditional thinker when it comes to cleansing?

Many folks associate cleansing with soap. I remember growing up and hearing about a certain beauty bar that was gentle enough to use on your face. I equated bubbles with squeaky clean skin, but have learned there is a more effective way that is gentle and moisturizing.

I would like to share with you why I am no longer a fan of using soap to cleanse my skin and why you may become a convert as well. Read on to discover the important reasons to consider something other than conventional soap or soap based washes.

Let's pause for a moment and think outside the box.

Have you considered using oil, (gasp), as a cleanser instead of soap or soap based washes?

I know it sounds a little unconventional and counterintuitive, but please allow me to explain.

Oil contains antioxidants, vitamins, and anti-inflammatory properties. Cleansing with oil dissolves and removes dirt on the skin. Our skin needs oil and many products on the market do the opposite by stripping your skin of oil leaving it feeling tight and dry.

The result?

Your skin works overtime trying to compensate for the oil it lost, thus creating a vicious cycle.

Oil cleansing is ideal for all skin types, including oily and acne prone skin because of its ability to clean and moisturize without irritation. With so many great natural skincare lines available you owe it to yourself to give an oil cleanser a try. Personally, I like to use Unbelievable Skin Care's "Cleanse My Face" product made with a blend of 2 plant based oils and therapeutic grade essential oils for added benefits and aromatherapy.

Right now you may be wondering okay, so how am I supposed to cleanse with oil?

No worries, I'm glad you asked because I am more than happy to share my preferred Oil Cleansing Method. Do keep in mind there are other techniques out there, this just happens to be the one I use.

By all means, please feel free to experiment.

Application matters.

Begin by placing a damp, hot washcloth on your face for 20 - 30 seconds. The steam will help to open pores and pull out dirt. Dispense a quarter sized amount of oil in the palm of your hand and massage into your skin. Use both hands to gently massage product in small circular motions.

Massaging helps to relieve facial tension and improve muscle tone, as well as helping to stimulate the production of collagen. Take your time, paying close attention to problematic areas.

Allow the oil to set on your skin for 30 seconds.

Rinse your washcloth in hot, but not scalding water.

Next, gently wipe the wash cloth over your face to remove the excess oil.

If you are pressed for time, simply apply the Facial Oil, massage into skin, and gently wipe off.

While faster, this shorter version robs you of the steam benefits and some much needed relaxation.
